Lawrence Hutchins, Jr. was honored with a bridge named for him during a ceremony held at A.E. Beach High School, on July 26th hosted by State Representative Carl Gilliard. The ceremony was followed by a motorcade to the bridge. In part, the resolution establishing the naming of the bridge reads, “WHEREAS, it is abundantly fitting and proper that this remarkable and distinguished Georgian be recognized appropriately by dedicating a bridge in his honor. Therefore, be it resolved and enacted by the General Assembly of Georgia that the bridge on US-17 in Chatham County, east of Red Gate Farms Road, over the CSX Rail Line, is dedicated as the Lawrence Hutchins, Jr. Bridge.”

Hutchins, a Savannah native, is a 1963 graduate of Savannah State where he obtained a music education degree. He would go on to continue his studies at the Vandercook College of Music in Chicago, Illinois. His professional career as a music teacher and band director spanned 43 years. He is an ardent member

of Bethel A.M.E. Church where he serves in several capacities. Active in the community, Hutchins is affiliated with the National Association for Music Education, Georgia Music Educators Association, Frank Callen Boys and Girls Club Alumni and Friends Association, Thursday Morning Breakfast Club, Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., Savannah Basketball and Football Officials Association, Beach High School Athletic Hall of Fame Association, Beach High Alumni Class of 1959, Beach High School Alumni Association, and the SSU National Alumni Association. We salute Alum Lawrence Hutchins on this special honor!

Dr. Reginald Leseane, '96 has been named Interim Dean of the College of Business Administration following the departure of Dr. Sudesh Mujumdar.  Leseane is no stranger to the SSU family.  He retired in 202 after 22 years of service.  During that time, he served his alma mater as Associate Professor, Associate Dean, and Interim Dean all under the College of Business Administration, and Interim Provost and Vice President for academic affairs under the Division of Academic Affairs.

Leseane holds a bachelor's degree from Savannah State University.  He earned master's and doctoral degrees at Georgia Southern University.  He is a shining example of a true Tiger!  Thank you for your commitment to the growth and success of SSU.
